Combining
a wonderful blend of head and heart, Julie Kabat is an inspiring
presenter, educator, and performer. She communicates a sense of
joy, gently coaxing even the most reluctant to explore the creativity
that resides within us all.
As a composer and concert artist, Julie has performed her music
throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan. She accompanies
her soprano voice with glass harmonica and a wide range of homemade
and ethnic instruments. She began to study music composition at
age eleven with members of the music faculty at Brown University.
An avid learner, she continues to study voice and other aspects
of music, and she has studied related arts, such as acting and
storytelling, including traditional Noh theater in Kyoto, Japan.
She has composed choral and chamber music, as well as music for
the theater. Her recorded music is available on Leonarda and Centaur
labels.
Julie draws on over twenty-five years' experience working with
teachers and children of diverse cultures and regions, from inner
cities in the northeast to the Navajo Reservation in the southwest.
She has presented professional development workshops for teachers
and teaching artists under the auspices of the New York State
Alliance for Arts Education, Young Audiences, Utah State Office
of Education, New York State Education Department, and the New
York Foundation for the Arts, among others.
